Where your Patreon money goes

Some people have asked what a pledge to Avakot.org pays for. Here's the plain answer: what your money keeps running, what you get back, and what it has never paid for.

Oreo, Project Lead of Avakot.org

Soulmap, the interactive Soulframe map, showing markers across the world

What it pays for

Every pledge goes into the same pot, and that pot pays the bills for everything on this list. If the bills stop, these stop.

The list will grow. As we build more, the running costs go up with it, and anything new that we host lands here too.

  • Avakot.org

The hub site and everything that hangs off it.

  • Feedback board

Where you post ideas and vote on what gets built next.

  • Servers and VPSes

The machines everything else on this list runs on.

  • Little Genius

The desktop companion app and the backend behind its sync.

  • Lite Genius

The part of Little Genius served from buddy.avakot.org, on a VPS the Patreon pays for.

  • Soulmap

The interactive map, its accounts and its cloud saves.

  • Alca Guesser

The game where you guess where in Soulframe a screenshot was taken.

  • The Avakot API

The data service that Little Genius, Soulmap and our bots all read from.

  • Discord bots

The bots in our Discord server that need a premium plan to keep running.

  • Cloudflare

Hosting, DNS and storage for our sites and app downloads.

  • MongoDB Atlas

The database behind accounts, sync and the API.

After the bills

The Patreon keeps the project's lights on first. Whatever is left keeps mine on too. It isn't a lot, but it's enough that I can keep working on Avakot.org full-time.

I love doing this full-time. It means I get to spend my days with the community, and when something breaks or the game updates, I can fix it fast.

What you get back

Patrons unlock extra features in Little Genius and Soulmap as a thank you. The core of both apps stays free for everyone.

Tiers and your account

There are two tiers, Avakot+ and Inner Circle, and both unlock everything above. To switch them on, connect your Discord account in your Patreon app settings. Patreon then gives you a role in the Avakot Discord server, and the perks turn on when you sign in with that Discord account.

One Avakot account covers Soulmap, Little Genius, Lite Genius and Alca Guesser. You can manage it at auth.avakot.org.

What it doesn't pay for

avakot.market and avakot.build

These are Cameron's projects, and he runs them independently. We've talked about covering them from the Patreon, and he prefers to keep them separate, which is entirely his call. So your pledge doesn't go toward either of them.

The wiki

The wiki is hosted by Miraheze, so the Patreon doesn't pay for that either. I chip in to Miraheze every month because I'm glad they're there for us. They run their own donation drive each year, and if the wiki has helped you, please give them something.

If you pledged for something else

If you started supporting because of avakot.market, avakot.build or the wiki, I'm sorry for the mix-up. Your money went to the things listed above.

If that changes how you feel, it's completely fine to lower or cancel your pledge, and there are no hard feelings on my side. You can do it from your Patreon memberships page. Whatever you gave while you were here kept the servers on, and I'm grateful for it.

Manage your pledge

Who's behind all this

I'm Oreo, born in Brazil in March 1999, which makes me 27 as you read this. Making things for the games I love comes naturally to me, to the point where I build more software around games than I spend playing them. I still have (checks notes) 13 weapons left to level in Soulframe, though they do come in handy for testing things.

For as long as I can remember, whenever I find a game I really enjoy, I end up building things around it, outside the game itself. I did it for EVE, I did it for GTA San Andreas, and honestly for a lot of games since.

Preludes

My story with Soulframe started in Preludes 5, when an access code landed in my email. The game was rough around the edges, but I could see the potential, and I played for something like 29 hours straight. There wasn't much to do apart from collecting weapons, but I loved those dungeon loops and I was glad to be part of something that cool.

In Preludes 7 I got the itch to build something for the community that had helped me so much. We didn't have a map, and a lot of people were frustrated and completely lost. So I took a really janky screenshot of the map, started plotting points on it, and Soulmap was born. It was beautiful. Beautifully bad, to be honest, but it was a start. As I write this, we're on Soulmap V4.

Midrath was tiny back then, and it felt so nice to roam around that mysterious land full of fog. So much fog. If you're curious, you can still see how small the map was in Preludes 7.

Soulmap was built by me and so many others. DE has since archived the old Preludes server and hidden its posts, but the original Soulmap thread was full of people sending screenshots of places for me to pin. The whole system was terrible. It was a .yml file I updated by hand, and every update restarted the map for everyone using it. Great memories.

Avakot.org

Then I met CommanderKronos, a great person, who had a domain he'd picked up earlier and didn't know what to do with. He offered it to me: avakot.org. It had a cool sound to it, and around then cool people started showing up. One of them was Remico, the awesome gal who pretty much made Avakot.org work in the beginning. I was busy with code while Remico gathered data, both for Soulmap and for an upcoming project we knew would take a lot of effort and care.

The wiki

In 2024, Kronos and I talked about starting a wiki. We got in touch with Miraheze and got everything in order, then realized we couldn't run it ourselves. We both loved the game, but we didn't have the brain power or the data analysis chops it needed.

In February 2025, after all her work on Soulmap, Remico had a crazy idea: why not a wiki? Right then and there, wiki.avakot.org was born. For some unknown reason I decided we'd use Wiki.js. I was so naive, and that thing is so bad. But WikiV1 got underway anyway, and there's a lot of history in it, a lot of joy and care, and a fair share of insanity. I still vividly remember the week DE pushed three hotfixes, two of which completely changed the drop tables, while Remi fought her demons to keep the community's wiki up to date and dependable. There was Fex too, which was never that good. They still copy-paste things from us to this day, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

The people

WikiV1 was doing great, and more and more people showed up to help. Some of the greats started there, all of them as wiki scribes. Jay, now our Community Manager, has skills I can't begin to comprehend. I'm a very blunt person, and they can solve situations effortlessly. Griffith hopped on too, an insanely talented and creative guy who now manages the wiki codebase. Pretty much anything wiki code goes through him.

Drackore joined a bit later, while Griffith and I were moving the wiki from Wiki.js to MediaWiki, the one you all know and love. I don't even know where to start with him. The old V1 looked nice, and we still use its colour scheme everywhere (thanks, Remi!), but Drackore looked at it, decided he could make it look better, and the madlad did. He manages the wiki now, and he is as much the wiki as any of us. I trust Drackore blindly.

Cameron joined around then too and built the pipelines that pull weapon stats and crafting materials from each update, so we no longer gather those by hand. That leaves more time for what still needs hands-on testing: totem effects, runes and all the juicy stuff.

Thank you Hermit, SiegeMinion, Manaia, Sara (the one who loves archery), Aevenlight and so many others in the Discord who research these things. The wiki is built by the community for the community, and you prove it with every comma you change.

Little Genius

From WikiV2 onwards we got to work. I started a companion app called the Buddy App, a webpage where you could mark your boss cooldowns and the items you already had. It was very much a glorified spreadsheet, as someone once told me (rent free, bro). People really enjoyed it, and I enjoyed maintaining it.

Meanwhile Cameron figured out something big: how to do what AlecaFrame does without the Overwolf API. If you haven't heard of it, AlecaFrame is a Warframe program that reads your in-game inventory. Cam used that to build Soulframe Timers, which showed your boss cooldowns and how long until you'd reach them. I saw the potential. What if I took that inventory reading and slotted it into my glorified spreadsheet? I asked Cam, got his blessing, and in November 2025 the first build of Little Genius came into existence. Very broken, but conceptually sound.

Here and now

The rest is history. Since 2024 we've grown a small but amazing community, a little over 6,700 Envoys in our Discord as I write this, people I'll always remember and cherish. We're all still very passionate about Soulframe and about where Digital Extremes is taking us.

Oreo, Project Lead of Avakot.org

Thank you, all of you

To everyone pledging right now: Avakot.org runs on you. When Little Genius ships a fix the same day the game patches, or Soulmap remembers your progress on another device, that's your pledge at work.

You've also given me the chance to do this full-time, and I don't take that lightly. Thank you for trusting me with it, and for sticking around.
